Great for getting better at what you're already good at

This book is a good training guide if you are a "typical" male climber (use arms a lot, likes powerful routes on overhangs but isn't too great at crimps) or if you want to improve in styles you already are good at. However, I found it didn't do as well with my weaknesses as a 5.12 female climber who excels at vertical, crimpy, technical routes and wanted to work on overcoming my weakness at severe overhangs. For example, the "ARC" workout (15-30 mins on the wall, up and down climbing, 1-3 times per night) works on the kinds of routes you can climb 10 minutes on when you start the training, but for me, trying to learn overhang technique, I couldn't spend that long on the wall without getting too tired. This left "overhang" practice for the later stages of the training, but then I had no overhanging endurance and immediately doing power moves on overhanging walls really hurt my shoulders. If you are good at overhangs but find crimps and endurance difficult, this book is for you! Or, if you want to get better at styles you're already good at, this will work wonders. It left me being able to climb vertical walls all day (seriously, I rarely ever get tired now, which is kinda crazy) but still not able to work on my weaknesses. Another point of weakness is that the phases are so long you often lose a lot of the gains of the previous phase when you move on. This is especially noticeable during the hang board phase, as I feel crazy strong but I had lost a lot of my gained endurance. All this being said, I went from projecting 5.12a to on sighting 5.12a, coming near to on sighting 12.b, and projecting 5.13a--in my style.

Fantastic. From motivation to methodology

Fantastic. From motivation to methodology, this book has it all. It is the next clear upgrade in climbing training literature since Performance Rock Climbing.

Not only does it presents a clear, concise, and informative approach to training, but it has useful information for everyone from the training neophyte to 5.14 crushers. The Training Manual provides not only complete plans, but the tools and information to modify the plans to suit the reader's goals and skills.

If you posses only one piece of training literature, let it be this. It will make you strong.

It's not easy to do the whole program

This book is a game changer as far as giving you a very clear and well written guide to training. It's not easy to do the whole program. ARC training can be mind numbingly boring and the lengthy period of time doing certain types of training can mean you aren't climbing with your pals as much. To put it very simply it works. The modulated training regimen will make you strong as heck and that strength will definitely apply to routes even though much of the training is not actually spent leading.

Just one word of advice / caution. The authors emphasize this over and over in the book but sometimes people think that it is just them being overly cautious. You really need to listen to them on this point, particularly if you're on the older side of climbers. You have to moderate the training. The book basically considers any climber that is leading less than 5.12 a beginner. That leaves many people in a large range that would consider their beginner workouts. Considering that the base workout can be quite hard, you really need to listen to your body and modify as needed. You may think that you can just do them anyway but the training gets progressively more difficult. Moderate and modify as you need, you'll still get a ton out of the training.

If you're plateau'ing around the high 10s to low 11s range and aren't improving like I was, get this book and do what it says. Read the whole thing and get to work.

About the Author
Jeffrey A. Schoenblum, Centennial Professor of Law at Vanderbilt University, is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Law School, where he was a Note Editor of the Harvard law Review. After law school, he served as a clerk for Judge J. Edward Lumbard of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and then was an associate with the New York law firm of Wilkie Farr & Gallagher. Professor Schoenblum is the author of a number of books and articles and has spoken at numerous seminars, including the University of Miami Annual Institute on Estate Planning and, most recently, the Southern Federal Tax Institute. He is an academician of the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law and a fellow of the American College of Estate and Trust Counsel. He has served as Chariman of the ABA Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section's Committee on International Property, Estate and Trust Law.

RONALD SCHECHTER is associate professor of history at the College of William and Mary, where he teaches a wide variety of courses in European history. He received his doctorate from Harvard University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Heidelberg. Conflict between religion and tolerance: Reality or myth

Lessing played a pivotal role in the German Enlightenment. Lessing's play "Nathan the Wise" is as relevant, if not more so, in the post 9/11 world of the 21st century as it was in the late 18th century when it was written. No single group has a monopoly over religious beliefs and practices. Every individual has the right to exercise freedom over whatever religion he or she chooses to follow. "All religions lead to the same God through different paths" according to the Indian divine and mystic Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa who practiced all religions. No religion can claim to know the absolute truth.

The belief of knowing the absolute truth has been the starting point of all religious violence that has been witnessed through the ages, even to the present day. Thinking of one religion's as superior to others and holding prejudices towards other religions has led to riots and religious holocausts. The false notion of thinking of the other religions as antagonistic to others has been the root of religious fundamentalism. Making generalizations about people from a specific religion as evil or moral or superior is a folly. Every religion has its share of adherents who not only fall into extreme shades of black and white but can also be classified within intermediary shades of grey. Devouts and fanatics are in every religion though most people fall in between these two categories. In today's world the stakes are too high for religious bigotry and belligerence.

In a world armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons, religious chauvinism can lead to the decimation of all of humanity, no matter what religion they follow. Religious jingoism has to be struck at its roots before the monster devours the whole of humanity. It is also important to remember that religious riots and violence are often triggered by petty and avaricious politicians and leaders for their own vested interests while the gullible public fall prey to such predatory and vicious political marketing of hypocritical and immoral ideals. It is necessary to have a balanced view of religion and not look at other religions with a jaundiced view.

Thoughtfull, touching, entertaining, classical literature

I first read this book (actually it is a play) in highschool and though I generally hated to be forced to read a book I really loved this one. I finished way ahead of schedule.
The reason: this book is extremely very well and has an up-to-date message even though it was written several 100 years back. The story is abou a Jewish merchant called Nathan, a templar and Nathan's daughter and the love between the templar and the daughter and the conflicts arising from it.
It is set in the time of the crusades and its message is: it does not matter which religion you believe in as long as you are a decent human being. This message was only written in a play because the author was officially forbidden from teaching his reconciliatory views on religion in university! It must have been a hardship for him, but today we can enjoy a literary masterpiece for just that reason. For me it is a perfect book and it might very well be the same for you.

Fantastic Historical Debut

Every year there seems to be one debut author who bursts upon the scene and absolutely knocks my socks off with her superb writing skill. This year, that author is Tessa Dare. In her debut book, GODDESS OF THE HUNT, Dare showcases her command of the English language with exquisite prose that sings across the pages with a lyrical quality that is a joy to read. Her characters are so vividly drawn that they practically leap from the pages and her story unerringly hits all the right notes.

Irrepressible Lucy Waltham has fancied herself in love with Sir Toby since the tender age of eleven, when her older brother's friend dubbed her his "Diana, Goddess of the Hunt". She has bided her time, knowing in her heart that one day Toby would awaken to his real feelings for her, but now, eight years later, her brother's friends have arrived for their annual gathering and, for the first time, Toby is exhibiting a serious interest in someone. Lucy has no choice but to seduce him and show him that she is the woman of his dreams and the one he is meant to marry, not Miss Sophia Hathaway. Unfortunately for Lucy, she has never even been kissed but she has a book that explains everything. All she needs now is someone with whom to practice.

Jeremy Trescott has always treasured his visits to Waltham Manor, the home of his good friend, Henry Waltham. It's the only place where he has ever been able to relax and be himself. Growing up with parents who showed neither love nor appreciation for their son, Jeremy learned to close off his emotions years ago. In truth, the only person who has ever been able to get a rise out of him is Lucy, his friend's exasperating younger sister and in Jeremy's own words, his "personal version of a biblical plague." Now she shows up at his bedroom door in the middle of the night with the crazy idea that she is going to seduce Toby...after honing her skills with him! If only she wasn't proving to be such a fast learner.

I have always enjoyed the "brother's best friend" storyline and I was intrigued by Dare's unique spin on the concept. Lucy does indeed fall for her brother's friend, just not the one that she, and everyone else, expected. But the self admission of her feelings isn't the end of this story but, rather, the beginning of the second half of the book for her greatest challenge, winning Jeremy's love, is still to be achieved and this is one hero who doesn't make it easy.

That perhaps is Dare's greatest talent as a writer. Aside from the scintillating banter, the lovely, lyrical prose, the humor and angst of young and unrequited love, this is an author who made me care about her characters - all of her characters. I highly recommend GODDESS OF THE HUNT. The next two books in this trilogy, SURRENDER OF A SIREN and A LADY OF PERSUASION will be released August 25th and September 29th, respectively. I'll be counting the days!

Okay-ish but...

It took sooo long to get anywhere. Then when it got there it just wandered around for a bit. The main characters were a bit formulaic and the story wasn't much better. Sometimes you do want something a bit tried and true but it is not satisfying when it turns out to be a bit flat. I have read a different book by the author, Romancing the Duke, and it was what drew me to this book. Sadly, I was mislead. The only way I got through this book was by having that lovely mechanical voice read it to me to lull me to sleep after a too late coffee. Lucy was immature and showed no real character development. Jeremy was forcibly written as the Grumpy Earl who just needed to be hugged more as a child. Lucy claims that she is not easily broken but spends way too much time crying, mopping about or about to cry. The plot was predictable in the worst way. Randomly at the end it seemed like Jeremy only existed to say things that were so saccharine I thought maybe there was a bit of the Invasion of the Body Snatchers going down in Regency England.
Two side characters were the highlights of the book. Hetta was interesting if not a bit or entirely anachronistic. Sophia did seem like she has more than one layer. Since she does have her own book I may give it a try, but once bitten and all....

This book started off with promise. The writing is witty and well paced. The plot had potential. The second half, however, is a serious disappointment. The themes lacked originality--the Big Misunderstanding That Could be Solved With One Conversation; the Redemption of the Rake by a Young, Innocent Virgin. Jeremy's angst was never believable, and his highly overreactive protection of Lucy got annoying. Lucy's character was better developed, but I was constantly reminded of her age and immaturity. There are better ways to spend your Kindle budget.

Available studies of neck pain experienced by teachers are limited. The purpose of this study was to determine whether training of deep cervical flexor muscles with pressure biofeedback has any significant advantage over conventional training for pain and disability experienced by school teachers with neck pain. The data analysis revealed that there was significant improvement in pain and disability in both the groups and the results were better in the experimental group. The article for this study has been accepted for publication in Journal of Physical therapy Science and due to appear in volume 24, issue 7 (August 2012).

Very informative

This book gives the non professional welder the basic information needed to weld steel and aluminum. It provides the metal information as well as the welder and filler rod/wire info. It is devided into MIG and TIG sections so that you don't get confused. It is easy to read and it also gives you charts to make your different settings.

Look at the price of this product! If you believe that you get what you pay for in this world, this book is not for you. It's just too light in useful information on TIG welding. It's totally outdated with photos of antiquated machines and it gives little information on the techniques of TIG welding. In essence it reads like an introduction to TIG welding with only 77 pages (many of which consist of test questions) dedicated to this subject. Even used at $34, it offers less insights than the free information you can find online. Yes, it's a good introduction to TIG, but no, it's not worth the cheapest price you will buy it for. Keep hunting for something better.
